The
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Please contact Vestry Member, Louise Lavine
for more information on the Atrium
Children (3-6 yrs. old) at Grace Church are invited to attend
the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. This Montessori-based program
is built upon the belief that this age group relates to God in a
simple and trusting manner. They understand Jesus as the Good Shepherd
and themselves as his sheep. The motto of the Catechesis is:
“Help me fall in love with God by myself.”
Our environment is called the Atrium, after
the area in the basilica where worshipers prepare hearts and minds
for the liturgy. The Atrium is serene and organized for children
to work with hands-on materials relating to the parables and liturgical
action. For example, in the Atrium there is a model altar with items
for Eucharist, figures of the Good Shepherd and sheep, vestments,
and a prayer table. Adults in the Atrium serve as catechists to
help children approach and connect to God. They beautify the Atrium
with flowers and art. The catechists do not “teach” so much as “announce”
the Good News. Visit the National Association of the Catechesis
of the
good shepherd.for more information.

Confirmation
At Grace , youth confirmands make their commitment to Christianity
and the Episcopal church after extensive preparation. Questions
about Confirmation should be asked of the Rector, who works directly
and joyfully with our youth.
Adult mentors meet with confirmands on Sunday mornings or during
the week. Sessions are modeled on the program: journey
to adulthood.
Confirmed youth and
Vestry are invited to attend adult classes.
A New Series begins on April 30, 2008
“Global Insights: Development Needs"
As part of Grace Church's ongoing campaign to help The Episcopal
Church meet the Millennium Development Goals established by the
U. N. in 1999, we are hosting a series of talks/slide presenta-tions
on problems in developing nations where church members or diocesan
staff have recently traveled. The talks will take place in the Parish
Hall on 3 Wednesday evenings beginning April 30, with supper at
6:00 p.m. and program 6:30-8:00 p.m. The second and third events
will be on May 14 (Haiti) and May 21 (Liberia and Ghana).
Wednesday, April 30:
1) "Focus on Bolivia": Ruth Hooke will give a short report
on her trip in the fall of 2007 with Witness for Peace and share
her impressions of the needs in that country. 2) “Focus on
the Amazon” with Jim Duda and students from the UMass chapter
of Engineers Without Borders. Using a Power Point presentation,
they will discuss their efforts to bring clean water and healthy
sanitation to an extremely poor community of Amazonian rubber tappers
in Brazil.
