Our Mission
The mission of the Church is to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ.
We fulfill this mission through the prayers, the generosity, and the presence of all of our members who are the principle ministers of the Church.
At Grace Church we acknowledge the painful experience of division and disunity, both within us, in the church, and certainly in the world. We are realistic in our awareness of how we are different. Not all are members are of the same political party. Not all have the samed levels of education, material wealth, or status in society. We represent different ethnicitiese, genders, and sexual orientation. We sometimes struggle with questions of biblical interpretation and liturgical customs. Some appreciate sermons that directly address political or global issues of the day whichlead us to concrete actions. Others prefer more devotional messages that lead one away from the world and into contemplation. Some in our congregation find the central focus of our mission of restoration to unity within the struggle for a peaceful and just resolution to the tragic conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. Others find their passion in the efforts to heal the Earth and guard against environmental catastrophes. We have been involved in the struggle for equal treatment and inclusion of gays and lesbians in the full life of the Church. We collectively and deeply grieve the sin of war and its devastating effects on all humanity. Many are striving to further our commitment to reach the Eight Millennium Development Goals put forth by the United Nations and endorsed by the Anglican Communion and the Episcopal Church. There are others at Grace Church whose commitment to the resorative mission of the church no less powefully takes the shape of raising their children in the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ. Regardless of our individual focus, we all seek to care for one another as members of the same household of God.
Our striving for unity in Christ is rooted in an experience of God who is known as Trinity. The diversity that is the nature of God allows for the experinece of unity in multiplicity. Residing in God's nature are the realities of difference, uniqueness of identity, even conflict, and yet the nature of God is held together by a love that seeks to draw all creation into harmony.
At Grace Church, we seek to live more deeply in the life of Trinity. Finding ourselves as dwellers within the Divine Community of God, the Three-in-One, we come to know the hope that life is not all about division, brokenness, disintegration, even death. Rather, we find that those inevitable and painful experiences of our existence are the very means towards life, wholeness, even holiness as we see ourselves as sharers in the inner life of God--the Source, the Christ, and the Holy Spirit.
